E-Shoe, A High Heeled Shoe Guitar by Chicks On Speed
Currently on show in Vyner Street’s Kate MacGarry space, this music-cum-fashion delicacy sums up much of what Chicks On Speed embody; a collision of raw creativity and loud attitude.
Somewhat surprisingly, the E-Shoe, developed with Max Kibardin, is a functioning instrument as well as a fashion statement. Who wouldn’t want a pair of these for New Year’s Eve?
The gallery website can be found at www.katemacgarry.com, and Chicks On Speed have an official space at www.chicksonspeed.com, where you can see some images of the show along with different colourways of the shoes. The exhibition, Happening, is  showing until 30th January.

Tron Legacy x Opening Ceremony Mens and Womens Collections
Opening Ceremony draws from the forthcoming Tron Legacy aesthetics in this bold, hi-tech collaboration. Using spandex and wool, funnel necks, laser cut details and statement colours flood the collection, which smacks of retro-futuristic 60s chic and modern utility styles.
A stand-out, innovative collection that’s not for the fainthearted, in my opinion the jacket styles pack the most punch in both the men’s and women’s ranges. I already own one orange bomber style jacket (an Alexander McQueen metallic leather piece, purchased on a whim several years ago) but I’m already justifying being the proud owner of two.
The newly released series can be found at www.openingceremony.us. For more information on the next Tron installment, visit the Disney site here.

Gareth Pugh Store, Hong Kong
If you have ever attended one of the British designer Gareth Pugh’s catwalks, you will understand how this retail space fits within his world instantly. Angular reflections, polished gloss tiles contrasting flat matt rubber surfaces, a futuristic padded dressing room; everything mirrors the high drama that Sunderland’s boy done good is famed for.
His latest venture is the perfect antidote to the recent fascination with beige and its sister neutrals, hinting at the sinister, dangerous underworld of fashion in a grittier way than the gothic-tinged work of designers such as the late Alexander McQueen. Unfortunately I haven’t visited this space as yet - a trip to Hong Kong to experience the store is as much of a want as Gareth’s latest creations - but I certainly hope to in the future.

Christina Hendricks by Miles Aldridge in British GQ
Having just purchased the latest issue of British GQ, I must admit that I was bowled over by the front cover. Made famous by her role as the cunning and voluptuous Joan Holloway in the hit US series Mad Men, Christina Hendricks is shot stunningly in vivid colour against a rose-covered white picket fence by fashion photographer Miles Aldridge.
Truth be told, the photo editorial could have done with a couple more of Miles’s trademark colour-popping shots with the same level of kitsch fun as the cover image. Regardless, this image is one of my particular favourites; the contrast between the colours of Christina’s hair, lipstick and eye make-up heightens the shot’s other-worldliness, confirming her enviable yet unobtainable ‘men want her, women want to be her’ charm. Elusive perfection.

Corset Cage Belt by Fleet Ilya
Picking up on a trend that is slowly growing in the niche apparel areas of lingerie and accessories, Fleet Ilya’s latest collection makes use of cut outs to create interest in their unconventional leatherwork.
A personal favourite for several years, the design house’s work is always exciting, empowering and just a little bit risque. I could definitely imagine this being paired with something flowing and ethereal in a inky palette, pushing the warrior look in a darker direction.
Details of the label’s ranges and stockists can be found at www.fleetilya.com.

Twin Magazine
Although I have had a copy of Twin’s latest, beautifully bound issue in the house since its release a couple of months ago, this morning was the first time that I poured over its pages since it arrived.
A carefully composed mixture of fashion, art, culture and feminism curated by Becky Smith, previously of Vogue and Lula, Twin is the perfect companion for a black coffee and a silk-satin robe on a lazy Sunday morning.
Twin can be purchased from www.twinfactory.co.uk, where the magazine’s creators also host a blog, video content and recommended links.

Tom Ford Eyewear Autumn/Winter 2010/11 Campaign Featuring Nicholas Hoult
I have found it difficult to put into words what captures me most about the recent Tom Ford campaign. Nicholas Hoult and Freja Beha Erichsen star in the lazily cited Hitchcock homage which sees both models polished to perfection amidst a murder of crows.
This shot is a particular favourite, the sheen of Nicholas’s blazer mimicking that of the crow’s plume. The whole campaign smacks of slick surreality; the eyewear takes centre stage in every image, perfectly framing stylistically bleached skin and balancing the pooling black of the birds’ feathers.
I can’t help but dream of one day owning one of these, not as a photograph but as a floor-to-ceiling lightbox or digital screen, casting an eerie glow across a room.

OriginalFake’s Varsity Track Jacket, Autumn/Winter 2010/11
OriginalFake, the apparel collaboration between Medicom, known for its collectible vinyl figures, and the American designer KAWS recently presented its latest pieces for the coming season. This emerald track jacket is the perfect casual addition to any wardrobe, focusing on quality and the simplicity of the well-loved style.
Admittedly, I’m a sucker for the varsity style, one of my personal favourites being Carhartt’s ‘C’ emblazoned jacket from previous seasons. Still, the high collar and pocket detailing here sets OriginalFake’s take on this classic apart.
The collection is online at www.original-fake.com.

Jean Paul Gaultier for La Perla Autumn/Winter 2010/11
Simply some of the most beautiful, delicate and decadent lingerie to be released in the past decade, Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection for the premium lingerie label La Perla defines sophistication.
Due to be premiered next week in Paris during the French designer’s haute couture show, I am anticipating that this collection is one that is as good in the flesh as in the press shots.

Florsheim by Duckie Brown’s Welder Boot
The brogue - an oldie but a goodie - is reinvented by the New York label Duckie Brown with eye-catching but altogether practical results.
Whereas Duckie Brown’s various styles include blue suede and a vibrant yellow leather, this pewter boot makes enough of a statement without screaming for attention. A practical want that will improve with age, these shoes are definitely worth the $475 price tag.
